It has confirmed what has been increasingly apparent for some time. Both major parties are not concerned with the commonweal but rather acquiring and maintaining power. Individual candidates generally follow this trend and are most concerned with their own vested interests.
The electorate likewise has, to a great extent, shifted to viewing the election process as one which exists to entertain and to affirm ones own bias and opinion.

All the major candidates have significant flaws and all diverge in many significant ways from what I think are important attitudes, policy goals, etc. In past elections there were candidates that I might have disagreed with in some areas but who I could "live with." Such is not the case this presidential cycle.
